Most common repairs needed to fix a Samsung dryer

Drum Support Roller Replacement

A worn drum support roller can make your dryer noisy. The support roller helps keep the drum in place as the drum spins inside the dryer cabinet. A worn roller wheel will make a clunking sound as the drum spins and hits flat spots on the roller wheel. The dryer can make whining or grinding sounds as parts rub against each other when the drum support roller wears out. When your dryer makes noise, have a Sears Home Services Expert visit your home and replace the drum support roller if it’s worn.

Blower Wheel Replacement

A damaged blower wheel will make a loud noise in the dryer when it’s running. The blower wheel moves air through the heater and into the dryer drum to dry the clothes. The blower wheel can eventually wear out and start vibrating and making loud noises as it spins. When you hear the dryer making loud vibrating or rattling noises, have a Sears Home Services Technician examine the dryer. The technician will replace the blower wheel if it’s damaged.

Drum Belt Replacement

When your dryer is noisy, a worn or broken drum belt could be causing the problem. A worn drum belt will slip across the drum and can cause a rubbing noise. If the belt breaks, it can cause a knocking noise as belt remnants are slung around inside the dryer by the drive motor. When your dryer makes loud noises and isn’t working as it should, schedule service and we’ll send a Sears Home Services Technician to your home to fix the dryer.

Why is my Samsung dryer suddenly so loud?

Here is a list of common dryer noises along with typical causes and suggested solutions.

Dryer rattling noise

Loud rattling noise in an dryer can be caused by coins or a similar foreign object clanging around in the drum while the dryer runs.

Zippers, snaps and other metal objects on clothing can also make rattling noise during the cycle.

Zip up zippers and snap all snaps, then turn garments inside out to help avoid rattling caused by zippers and snaps.

Rattling in a dryer can also be caused by unstable leveling feet.

Press down on diagonally opposing corners of the dryer to check for play and adjust leveling feet to stabilize the dryer as shown in the image below.

Fast thumping noise

Fast thumping noise in your dryer can be caused by a worn drum support roller. If the dryer was idle for a long time because it was in storage or in an unused house, one side of a drum support roller can become flat and cause a fast thumping noise.

Unplug the dryer and shut off the gas supply if you have a gas dryer. Open the top panel and of the dryer and spin the dryer drum by hand to check for noise coming from the drum support rollers.

Replace the drum support rollers if one side is flat and the rollers make noise.

Appliances, especially in the last 10 years, have become extremely advanced, and many models have electronic parts that are difficult to test. DIY repairs on the latest appliance models are becoming increasingly difficult.

Samsung Dryer Making Loud Noise

Your Samsung dryer making loud noise could be caused by overloading the drum with clothes. If you have an unusually large or heavy load in the dryer, pull some of the garments out. This may end the noise coming from the dryer.

Putting sneakers in the dryer without using the drying rack can cause loud banging noises. Follow the instructions in the owner’s manual to install the shoe drying rack to properly dry sneakers.

Loud squealing noise can be caused by the belt idler pulley, a bad bearing in the motor or a worn drive belt. Metallic scraping noise can be caused by a bad glide bearing or worn felt seal. A worn drum support roller can cause thumping noise in the dryer.

When your Samsung dryer is making loud noise and you’re unable to find the cause of the problem yourself, schedule dryer repair service and we’ll send a Sears Home Services technician to your home to fix the problem.

Samsung Dryer Making Grinding Noise

Stop the dryer when your Samsung dryer is making grinding noise. Check the size of the load. A load that is too large or too heavy for the dryer will cause the Samsung dryer to make grinding noise. Reduce the size of the load. If you’re drying a large (king size) comforter, you’ll likely need to take that item to a large dryer at the laundry mat to dry.

If your find your Samsung dryer making grinding noise with a normal load, empty the dryer and see if the noise happens when running the dryer with an empty drum. If the dryer makes noise while running with no load, then the drum glide bearings or felt seal could be worn or damaged.

Schedule dryer repair service when you’re unable to resolve your Samsung making grinding noise on your own. We’ll send a Sears Home Services technician to your home to find and fix the noise problem.

Samsung Dryer Screeching Noise

Dealing with Samsung dryer screeching noise can sometimes be as easy as pulling garments out of an overloaded drum and drying smaller loads going forward. Overloading the dryer is a leading cause of Samsung dryer screeching.

If the screeching noise continues after reducing the dryer load, empty the dryer completely and see if the noise continues. If it does, then

  • A worn drive belt idler pulley could be causing the screeching noise. The idler pulley is a spring-loaded tension wheel that keeps the drum belt tight so it doesn't slip while the drum spins during the drying cycle. A worn idler pulley can cause a loud screeching noise, often from the front of a Samsung dryer.
  • Another problem that can cause Samsung dryer screeching noise is a worn drum support roller. These roller wheels that support the dryer drum as it rotates eventually wear down and can damage the axles they're mounted on. The worn roller wheels and axles can cause a loud screeching noise while the dryer's running.
  • Worn drum glide bearings can also cause Samsung dryer screeching noise. The drum glide bearings help the edges of the dryer drum slide easily round the cabinet opening to the drum. The metal edge of the dryer drum rubbing against the metal of the cabinet opening causes a loud screeching noise.

Schedule dryer repair service to have a Sears Home Services technician examine your Samsung dryer and fix these types of noise problems. We’ll get your dryer running smoothly and quietly again in no time.

Samsung Dryer Making Squeaking Noise

When your Samsung dryer is making squeaking noise, check the size of the load. The dryer will squeak if the load is too large. Reduce the size of the load if the dryer is overloaded.

If reducing load size doesn’t help fix the problem with your Samsung dryer making squeaking noise, then one of these issues could be causing the squeak:

  • If the drum support rollers that stabilize the drum as it rotates become worn down, they can damage the axles attached to the cabinet. This can cause a squeaking noise while the dryer runs.
  • A Samsung dryer making squeaking noise could have a worn-out drive belt idler pulley. This idler pulley is a tension wheel that helps keep the drive belt tight so it doesn't slip while the drum spins during a drying cycle. A worn-out idler pulley will cause a loud squeaking noise coming from the bottom of the dryer cabinet.
  • A worn drum glide bearings could cause the dryer drum to squeak at the front of the dryer. The drum glide bearings help the edges of the dryer drum slide easily round the cabinet opening to the drum. The metal edge of the dryer drum rubbing against the metal of the cabinet opening can cause squealing noise.

Schedule dryer repair service to have our technician examine your Samsung dryer and fix the squeaking noise when you’re unable to resolve the problem yourself.
