Most common repairs needed to fix a LG refrigerator
Icemaker Assembly Replacement
The icemaker assembly includes all the components responsible for ice production, such as the motor, gears, and mold. If any part of the assembly is malfunctioning, it may prevent the icemaker from resetting properly. You might notice that the icemaker doesn't cycle or produce ice even after attempting a reset. Inspect the icemaker assembly for any visible signs of wear or damage. If you suspect the icemaker assembly is at fault, schedule an in-home repair appointment through Sears Home Services to have a technician diagnose and replace the faulty assembly, ensuring your icemaker resets and operates correctly.
PCB Replacement
A malfunctioning printed circuit board (PCB) could be the reason your refrigerator icemaker reset is not working. The PCB controls the electronic functions of the icemaker. If the PCB is faulty, it may not send the correct signals to the icemaker, preventing it from resetting. You might notice that the reset button is unresponsive or the icemaker does not start a new cycle after a reset attempt. Diagnosing a PCB can be complex and requires professional expertise.
Water Valve Replacement
The water valve assembly controls the flow of water to the icemaker. If the valve is not functioning correctly, it can prevent water from entering the icemaker, thereby inhibiting the reset process. You might notice that the icemaker doesn't fill with water or begin ice production after a reset attempt. To address this issue, inspect the water valve assembly for any signs of damage or blockages. If you suspect the water valve assembly is at fault, schedule an in-home repair appointment through Sears Home Services to have a technician diagnose and replace the faulty valve.
Why is the reset button not working on my LG ice maker?
When the test or reset button on the ice maker isn’t working, the ice maker module could be defective or a problem with the electronic control board in the fridge could be causing the failure.
Sometimes, you can reset the electronic control board and the ice maker module by resetting the circuit boards in the refrigerator using this procedure:
- Unplug the refrigerator power cord or shut off the house circuit breaker for the fridge if the outlet plug is difficult to reach.
- Leave power off for 2 minutes.
- Plug the power cord back in or reset the circuit breaker to restore electrical power to the fridge.
The circuit boards inside the fridge will reboot and reset.
The ice maker may resume normal operation after resetting the control boards.
If not, follow these troubleshooting steps to fix the ice maker failure.
Check for Ice or Water in the Ice Mold
If the ice mold is empty, a problem with the water supply or the ice maker module could be preventing ice production.
Check the water dispenser to see if it dispenses water.
If the water dispenser doesn’t work, replace the water filter if it hasn’t been changed in the last 6 months. A clogged water filter can prevent the ice maker and water dispenser from getting water.
If the filter is okay, check the water supply cut-off valve to make sure it’s open.
If you found the water supply cut-off valve open, shut that valve and disconnect the water line from the back of the fridge. Place the end of the water supply line in a bucket and briefly open the water supply cut-off valve to check the water flow from the end of the water supply line.
If water doesn’t flow through the water supply line, have a plumber fix the water supply going to your fridge.
If the water supply is okay, press the test, fill or reset button on the ice maker module to see whether the ice maker fills with water.
If the ice maker doesn’t cycle or it doesn’t fill with water, you’ll need to have the refrigerator serviced by a technician. The tech will need to find the cause for the ice maker failure.
By following these troubleshooting steps, you should be able to find and fix the cause of your ice maker failure.
