Most common repairs needed to fix a LG washer
Control Panel Replacement
The control panel houses the buttons, controls and wiring that manage the washer's functions. It also houses the speaker for the chime. If the panel is cracked or damaged, it can disrupt the electrical connections between the control board or user interface and the chime. A cracked control panel may also cause damage to the speaker. There may be visible damage to the control panel. Inspect the control panel for any cracks or damage, and schedule an appointment with a Sears Home Services technician to replace the control panel if needed.
PCB Replacement
If the chime in your washer isn't working, it could be because of a malfunctioning printed circuit board (PCB). The PCB, also called an electronic control board, can lead to various failures in a washer. This is because the board serves as the brain of the washer, controlling crucial components such as the water valve, drive motor, drain pump, and cycles. If the electronic control board fails, the washer may not sound the chime at the end of the cycle or display the cycle status. If your washer chime is not working, schedule an appointment with Sears Home Services to inspect the washer and make the repair.
User Interface Control Replacement
A defective user interface control may prevent the chime from sounding, or it may become unresponsive and won't allow you to change wash cycle settings or turn the washer on and off. Cycle status such as time remaining in the cycle won't display properly on a defective user interface. Control keys or buttons on the user interface may also stick, causing the washer to exhibit inconsistent behavior, such as starting or stopping unexpectedly during a cycle. Error codes may also be present. Schedule service with a Sears Home Services technician if you suspect the user interface has failed.
How do I turn the sound back on my LG washer?
Follow the directions in your owner’s manual to turn the chime sound back on for your model of LG washer.
As shown above, the buttons on the control panel label the functions so you may see the directions for turning on/off the chime sound on the control panel of your washer as shown in the image above.
Most of the time, you’ll need to hold a button or buttons down for 3 deliberate seconds to turn the chime sound on or off.

What if the chime function won’t turn on?
If you’re unable to turn on the chime function, reset the electronic control board in the washer by following these steps:
- Unplug the washer power cord.
- Leave the washer unplugged for 2 minutes.
- Plug the power cord back in to restore electrical power.
The control board in the washer will reboot and reset. The chime may work after the control board resets.
If you’re unable to get the chime working again, you may need to replace the electronic control board or the washer control panel.
Have a service technician test these components to see which part needs replacing to fix the chime failure.
