Most common repairs needed to fix a Broan range

Light Switch Replacement

A failed light switch won’t send electric current to the lights when you turn the switch on, so the surface below won’t be illuminated. You can most frequently tell when the switch has failed if you replace the bulb but the light still doesn’t work. The light switch is mounted on the control panel of the range hood, but accessing and diagnosing the light switch can be difficult. Have a Sears Home Services professional examine and repair your range hood when the switch isn’t working properly.

Fan Switch Replacement

The fan switch is mounted on the range hood control panel. It activates the blower fan motor at the selected speed. The fan switch may need replacing when the fan won’t turn on, won’t turn off or won’t spin at the selected speed. The fan switch can be difficult to reach and diagnose in some range hoods. Have a service technician diagnose and repair a fan problem in your range hood. The technician will be able to determine whether the fan switch needs to be replaced.

Electronic Control Board Replacement

An inoperative electronic control board can lead to various failures in a range hood, including a complete lack of power or erratic behavior from the blower fan or lights, or prevent the range hood from turning off. This is because the board serves as the brain of the range hood, controlling the operations such as regulating fan speed and lighting. If the electronic control board malfunctions, it can disrupt communication between different components. A failing board may cause a chattering or clicking noise from the hood and may emit a burning odor. Due to the potential impact on multiple components, it is advisable to have a Sears Home Services professional conduct diagnostic tests on the board to confirm if replacement is necessary.

If the light doesn’t work after replacing the bulb, the socket, switch or electronic control board could be causing the failure.

Check the Light Socket

Examine the light socket for damage. If you see burn marks around the socket or the socket is cracked or visibly damaged, replace it using this procedure:

  1. Shut off the house circuit breaker to disconnect electrical power to the range hood.
  2. Pull the latch tabs to release the air filters and pull both filters out of the range hood.
  3. Remove the screws that secure the bottom panel to the range hood frame and pull the bottom panel out of the range hood.
  4. Unplug the wire harness connectors for the light socket on the side panel. Pull the front of the side panel inward to release the locking tab and then remove the side panel.
  5. Grip the bottom of the light socket and turn it to the right to release the locking tabs that hold the light socket in the side panel. Pull the light socket out of the side panel and discard it.
  6. Line up the locking tabs and push the new light socket into the side panel. Rotate the light socket to the left to lock it into place in the side panel.
  7. Reassemble the range hood and restore electrical power.

If the light still doesn’t work after replacing the socket, you likely need to have a service technician examine and repair the range hood.
