Can I Fix My Stepper Myself?

What to do if the Stepper Power Won’t Turn On
If the stepper has a safety key, make sure it’s plugged into the console. The machine won’t start without this key.
Some steppers have an electronic display to guide you through and track your workout. If the display doesn’t light up, make sure the power cord is plugged into the outlet. Also check your home’s circuit breaker to see if it’s tripped; reset the breaker if needed.
Some steppers have a reset button or circuit breaker located on the console, column, or platform. If the switch has tripped, wait five minutes then press the switch to reset it.
If the power turns off during use, check the reset button as described above. Also make sure the power cord is still plugged in. If you’re not able to fix the problem, a service technician should examine the machine.
What to do if the Stepper Has a Hot or Burning Smell
If the stepper seems to run properly and there are no error codes on the console display, a burning odor could be generated as the machine breaks in. Various coatings on the stepper will emit odors when the machine is new and it is subjected to the heat of normal operation.
If the machine won’t move or if an error code is present, there could be a problem with the motor, motor control board or other electrical component. Discontinue use and have a service technician inspect the stepper to determine the cause.
What to do if the Stepper Slows or Shuts Off Entirely During Use
A stepper that struggles to maintain speed or shuts off during use could indicate abnormal strain on the motor. If your stepper uses walking belts, make sure the belts aren’t over tensioned. Check your owner’s manual for instructions on how to properly adjust the tension.
An extension cord that isn’t thick enough or that is too long could also strain the motor. Always plug the stepper directly into a properly ground power outlet.
What to do if the Stepper Makes Knocking Noises or is Unsteady During Use
Loose nuts and bolts in the machine could cause the stepper to rock during use, creating the noise. Inspect the stepper and tighten any loose fasteners.
The stepper could also rock if the base isn’t level. Check the leveling feet under the stabilizer and adjust them as needed, until the rocking motion is eliminated.
