Common Humidifier Issues We Fix
A whole home humidifier works in conjunction with your furnace to maintain the optimum humidity level in your home. The humidifier control senses indoor relative humidity and outdoor temperature. It automatically adjusts the operation time of the humidifier to keep indoor air moist and comfortable.
When the humidifier isn't working properly, you'll know it. Here are common humidifier failures that our technicians repair:
No Moisture Output
Problems with the water supply, water fill valve or media pad can prevent the humidifier from working. The technician will check these issues first.
Out techs are experts at finding and fixing humidifier problems. Schedule repair service as soon us you notice dry air in your home.
Unusual Noises
Water hammer from a bad water fill valve can cause banging noises in your humidifier. Gurgling noises could indicate that it has a partially clogged drain. Squeaking or squealing noises could be caused by mechanical problems with the media pad. Check the owner's manual for troubleshooting advice based on the type of noise you hear.
If you're unable to find and fix the cause of the noise, schedule service and we'll fix the problem for you.
Water Leaks
Leaking water can be caused by a bad fill hose, stuck inlet valve, loose water system fittings or a leaking drain hose.
Examine the humidifier to find the cause of the leak. If you're unable to fix the leak yourself, schedule service and we'll send a technician to resolve the issue for you.
Common Dehumidifier Issues We Fix
By drawing moisture from the air, a dehumidifier can protect your basement and other spaces from mold and mildew during hot weather. When your dehumidifier isn’t working follow the DIY troubleshooting steps in your owner's to solve the problem. If you're unable to find the cause of the dehumidifier failure, schedule appliance repair service and we'll send a Sears Home Services technician to your home to fix the problem.
Here are the common dehumidifier issues that our technicians face and some DIY troubleshooting that may help you fix the problem on your own.
Excessive Humidity
Dehumidification is sometimes a slow and deliberate process. After you first plug in the dehumidifier, give it 3 to 4 days to reach and maintain the humidity level you set.
Here are additional tips to help resolve the problem:
- To allow adequate air flow, place the dehumidifier at least 6 inches from walls.
- So the dehumidifier can work efficiently, clean the air filter and grille if it's dirty.
- If the dehumidifier's capacity is too small for the space, it can't remove humidity adequately; consider adding another dehumidifier to the area.
If you suspect that your dehumidifier isn't working as it should, schedule repair service and we'll fix the problem for you.
Dehumidifier Not Turning On
When the dehumidifier doesn't turn on, first test that the electrical outlet works by plugging a lamp or small appliance into it. If there's no electricity to the outlet, reset the house circuit. If the electrical outlet works, the problem could be in the dehumidifier's internal wiring, electronic control board or the user interface control board in the control panel.
Schedule appliance repair service if you're unable find and fix the cause of the power problem on your own.
Water Tank Issues
When the tank leaks, check for cracks or damage and replace the tank if necessary. If the tank water level sensor detects that the tank is full when it's actually empty, you'll likely need to replace that sensor.
If the tank fills with water even though you have a drain hose connected, a bad seal or fitting may be allowing water to leak into the tank.
Have a service technician examine the dehumidifier find and fix the cause of the problem if you can't resolve the issue on your own.
