Most common repairs needed to fix a LG washer

    Electronic Control Board Replacement

A malfunctioning electronic control board can lead to various failures in a washer. This is because the board serves as the brain of the washer, controlling crucial components such as the water valve, drive motor, drain pump, and cycles. If the electronic control board fails, the washer may not power up or display the cycle status. Additionally, it might fail to fill, agitate, spin, or drain. In some cases, a shorted board may emit a burning smell.

    Door Lock Assembly Replacement

When a washer door lock assembly is jammed, you may encounter difficulty in opening or closing the washer door. The door may not latch properly, leading to issues in starting or completing a wash cycle. The washer might display an error code indicating a door lock problem. During operation, the door lock may make unusual clicking sounds or fail to engage, preventing the washer from starting. Additionally, if there is a malfunction, the door lock indicator light may not illuminate as expected. Users might notice water remaining in the drum even after the wash cycle has finished, indicating a potential problem with the door lock assembly preventing proper drainage.

    User Interface Control Replacement

A faulty user interface control may become unresponsive and won’t allow you to change wash cycle settings or turn the washer on and off. In some failures, only one or two buttons or dials on the interface are affected, but in some cases the entire interface will be completely dead. Cycle status such as time remaining in the cycle won’t display properly on a defective user interface. Control keys or buttons on the user interface may also stick, causing the washer to exhibit inconsistent behavior, such as starting or stopping unexpectedly during a cycle. Error codes may also be present.

Diagnosing modern appliances without proper knowledge and training can be difficult. Without using proper diagnostic techniques, fixing your washer problem will only be achieved through changing parts on a hunch. Appliances, especially in the last 10 years, have become extremely advanced, and many models have electronic parts that are difficult to test. DIY repairs on the latest appliance models are becoming increasingly difficult.

    LG Washing Machine Won’t Start

When your LG washing machine won’t start, follow these troubleshooting steps to solve the problem.

    1. Make sure the Child Lock feature is turned off. You’ll see the CL code in the display when the Child Lock featured is enabled. When the Child Lock is turned on, any button except the power button will not work. If you find the Child Lock enabled, disable that feature by pressing and holding the designated button or buttons for 3 seconds.
    2. Check the display for an error code. Your LG washing machine typically won’t start if an error code is displayed on the control panel. Look up the error code on our Sears PartsDirect error code chart for LG washers and follow the troubleshooting steps described for that code. Schedule washer repair service if you’re unable to fix the problem causing the error code on your own.
    3. Reset the washer electronic control board. Turn the washing machine off and unplug the power cord. Press and hold the Start/Pause button for 5 deliberate seconds. Plug the power cord back in and turn on the washer. You may then be able to start the washer.

If these basic troubleshooting tips don’t help resolve the problem when your LG washing machine won’t start, schedule washer repair service and we’ll send a Sears Home Services technician to your home to fix the washing machine.

LG Washer Start Button Not Working

When your LG washer start button is not working, check to see if the Child Lock feature is enabled. On many LG washer models, you’ll see CL in the digital display to indicate that the Child Lock feature is turned on. Turn off that feature by pressing and holding the designated button or buttons on the control panel for 3 deliberate seconds.

After disabling the Child Lock, the start button should work.

If the Child Lock feature wasn’t turned on or the start button is not working after turning that feature off, perform a reset of the electronic control board in your LG washer using this procedure:

    1. Turn the washer off.
    2. Unplug the washer power cord.
    3. Press and hold in the Start/Pause button for 5 deliberate seconds.
    4. Plug the washer back in and turn it on.

You may find that the start button works and your can start the cycle after performing this reset of the control board. If not, you’ll likely need to schedule washer repair service to have a service technician fix the problem. A bad control panel, defective electronic control board or wiring failure could be causing the problem with your LG washer start button not working.
